The Networked and Distributed Computing Systems Lab (NDSL) needs
volunteers who use Mozilla Thunderbird as their primary email client. We have
developed a small plugin which collects statistics regarding humans' typing habits.
Our goal is to learn the characteristics of human-generated emails so that we can
build a more effective tool to suppress spam transmitted by bots. Specifically,
we want to get timing information of each character that is entered by a
human in writing an email. Once you install the plugin, it will log the
timestamp of each character of your email into a file. This tool does not write
actual characters (only the timestamp) of the email. Therefore, user privacy
regarding content is preserved. Your timing data will strictly be used for
research purposes and will not be shared with any third party.

Download plugin for: [Linux]1, [Windows]2, [Mac]3
(Mozilla Firefox Users: Right-click the link and use 'Save Link As' to download the file.)
Please report any issues/bugs you face to:How To Install

1. The Linux version stores the log file in the user's home directory (~/moz_thbrd_email_stats.txt)
2. The Windows version stores the log file (moz_thbrd_email_stats.txt) in C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\ directory (home directory)
3. The Mac version stores the log file in the user's home directory (~/moz_thbrd_email_stats.txt)
* All three plugins have been upgraded to run for versions between 1.5.* and 15.0.*.*
